Project 06
Computational analysis of humor, sentiment, and latent topics across two iconic animated series.
Overview
This project conducted a comparative analysis of The Simpsons and Family Guy dialogues using text mining, topic modeling (LDA and STM), and sentiment analysis. Results confirm many perceived differences between the two series and reveal evolving narrative and linguistic patterns over time.
Insight
Family Guy exhibits a more provocative, colorfully emotional language; The Simpsons maintains a more neutral and accessible tone. Topic modeling identifies recurring themes such as family life, media, holidays, school, work, marriage, and politics, with differing treatment across series. Sentiment analysis confirms these tonal differences and highlights character- and theme-specific emotional dynamics over time.
